Are you into building or upgrading your own computer? If so, then here are my top 10 choices (and a couple more) that I think will keep you and your business going and work best for you. Everything below with just one exception is what I use myself. If you want a second opinion, check out PC World Magazine Reviews section for the latest information. It has been two years since I updated this list (From Dec 2004 to March 2007) and am surprised that several still remain on the list.
The Best Picks of March 2007:

Hope that old monitor dies because the new ones are great. The best rated graphics out of a 19 inch monitor is the Samsung. PC World's reviews rate it outstanding graphics. Avoid the widescreen models unless you want to watch a lot of movies. www.samsung.com. |

Want the easiest way to transfer data from one computer to another. Forget CDs, Zip Disks, Networking, and emailing it. Just use one of these USB Drives like the Mini-Cruzer or the Jump Drive. Get a good brand name but you can store up to 4 Gigabytes of information on them, they are fast, and you can't beat the prices per gigabyte. |

Like every year, Ink Jet printers have changed a lot and this Epson Stylus Photo R260 is the best of the bunch. While you may find some HP Printers getting higher ratings marks, you can't beat Epson for photo quality pictures. This is the latest one I just bought for myself at home. |

There is no doubt now that if you are a Windows User, then you need Windows XP on your new computer. It works, handles program crashes so much better and is stable. For older computers, be careful as there are problems with older hardware and software to look out for. Also, make sure you have Service Pak 2 on it. |

For Years, I had been a fan of Eudora as an email program but the more I had to use Outlook, I was convinced that it does the best job of securing my email and keeping junk away. The current 2003 version does a great job of tracking your junk and mail. Can't wait to try out the 2007 version. Tip, The 2007 Student Teacher Office edition does not include Outlook ! |

Microsoft's Intellimouse Optical If you are going to get a new computer or make some changes to the old one, give up on the old mouse you have and go optical. Once you do, you won't go back. The best Mouse around, easy to use, and there is no ball to get dirty and stick. For less than $20. |

Cable and DSL Modems are becoming the new way to connect yourself to the internet and to keep you protected, you need Firewall protection. Don't go cheap but look to good quality products like these Linksys units. I recommend the BEFSX41 for Wired Networks, and the WRT54G for Wireless. |

From Corel now, this is probably the best graphics program under $100 available today. It does everything the big boys does and sometimes, even better. This is something I use all the time with everything from my scanner to digital camera to web stuff. One of my top ten. Also, take a look at Aftershot, a really neat way to work with your digital photo images. |

You can spend weeks deciding on a digital camera. There are that many good choices out there but you have to spend a little. For me, I would pick this Panasonic DMC-50Z. 10 Megapixel, 12X optical zoom, image stabilization, great lens for less than $650. |

| I can't let you go without getting on at least one soapbox and that is the problem of not keeping your equipment protected and today, you need it more than ever. First of all is a good Antivirus product like Norton's Antivirus. Best part about this program is that it keeps itself up to date. This new one has some great features. Go with the Internet Security version. | ![]() |
